Typically I like the USA Today because they attempt to &#8216;do no harm&#8217; with most of their reporting.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/news\/washington\/2010-04-12-deficit_N.htm\">http:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/news\/washington\/2010-04-12-deficit_N.htm<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/i.usatoday.net\/news\/graphics\/2010\/2010-04-13-deficit\/deficit-va.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"323\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Take note of the call-outs for &#8220;Tax Cuts&#8221;.\u00a0 When ever a tax cut occurs, there&#8217;s a drop in revenue &#8211; as a percentage of GDP.\u00a0 This will lead most people to conclude &#8216;tax cuts cost us money!&#8217;.\u00a0 However, if you were paying attention in Economics and History classes and remember the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Laffer_curve\">Laffer Curve<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0 Revenue during the years after tax cuts actually _<a href=\"http:\/\/www.gpoaccess.gov\/usbudget\/fy10\/sheets\/hist02z1.xls\"><em>increased<\/em><\/a>_.\u00a0 Of course the increases appear to cause a decrease in revenues, as a percentage of GDP, because the economy as a whole grew by a greater percentage!\u00a0 So the pie grew bigger &#8211; and everyone did better, keeping more of their own money, BUT the governments take of the pie decreased.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, when Revenues to the US government increased, AND the deficit % increased, it means Congress spent even more money &#8211; taking advantage of the increased revenues (and then some!).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I found this graph over at the USA Today.
